Proof of Authority
During this phase, Polkadot operated as a Proof of Authority (PoA) chain maintained by six validators belonging to Web3 Foundation. The chain only allowed users to claim DOT tokens or submit their intention to validate or nominate.

How do we move forward?
Once the network was running smoothly and had a sufficient number of well staked validators, Nominated Proof of Stake was enabled with a Sudo call to change eras, and therefore perform the first validator election.See All Phases
